The fabulous Lady Gaga has won so many awards, it’s difficult to know where to start! There’s Academy Awards, American Music Awards, APRA Music Awards, ARIA Music Awards, ASCAP Pop Music Awards, Bambi Awards, DET Awards, and the list goes on.
Lady Gaga’s early life
Born in 1986 as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta to an Italian family in New York City, her musical career began when she started playing piano at the age of four. She learnt to create music by ear, rather than reading sheet music and started playing at open mic nights as a teenager. She studied method acting for ten years, auditioned for New York shows, and at 17 achieved an early admission to New York’s music school. She studied music and studied hard to improve her song writing skills but dropped out in during the second semester to focus on her music career.
From 2005 to 2007, she recorded a few songs, started a band, and played gigs in downtown NY. She started writing songs with music producer Rob Fusari, who says that he was the first person to call her Lady Gaga, after listening to Queen’s Radio Ga Ga hit song. She went on to record a number of songs herself, as well as writing songs for Britney Spears, New Kids on the Block and others.
Lady Gaga’s first singing break
In 2007, she signed with Cherrytree Records and in 2008 moved to LA where she released her debut album Fame, which reached No 1 in multiple countries. Just Dance and Poker Face, two singles from this album, both reached No 1 as well.
Gaga’s hit song Shallow
Performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, Shallow was released in 2018 as a single from the movie, A Star is Born. Written by Gaga, Andrew Wyatt, Anthony Rossomando and Mark Ronson it topped the charts around the world and has won numerous awards. It’s a wonderful song for a choir to sing!
